MICHAEL B. PINKEY
spent more than ten years writing STRAY NOT BEYOND, after thinking (when he rolled the first piece of paper into his typewriter) that it would take about one. Now 57, he has worked as a musician (one of his songs won Honorable Mention in the 2002 "John Lennon International Songwriting Contest"), newspaperman, photographer, cartoonist, proofreader, film extra (UHF, WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS, THE PRIZEFIGHTER), and purveyor of collectibles (with which his small home is unreasonably stuffed). A former sergeant of United States Marines, he took refuge years ago in a blue house near the Arkansas River, where he spends his time cooking, gardening, composing, dusting, and investigating the language of butterflies. He thinks they are hatching a plot.
